Questions and answers
Longer answers are in our guides on the rules, grants and asbestos. Write to us if your question isn't answered here.
Can I remove asbestos myself?
As a rule, no. Since 1 January 2025 demolition of asbestos-containing material in Denmark may only be carried out with an authorisation. The exception is brief demolition work of a minor nature. The Working Environment Authority's examples are 4–6 roof sheets for one roof window, a few tiles that break when you drill into them, and 1–2 pipe bends taken down whole. Even that must be handled without breaking, grinding or drilling the material, and a larger job may not be split into small ones to avoid authorisation. If in doubt, call before you touch it.
What does asbestos removal cost?
An asbestos roof costs from DKK 385/m² incl. VAT (DKK 308/m² excl. VAT), depending on roof type and roof area. Disposal is included in the price. Indoor jobs such as tile adhesive, pipe insulation and ceiling panels are priced after a site visit, because the extent and the containment decide the price. Use the roof calculator on the pricing page for an indicative price, and get a fixed quote in writing after the visit. Indicative price – final quote after assessment.
Are you authorised to remove asbestos?
Yes. Verdan's responsible professional holds the authorisation for demolition of asbestos-containing material, and everyone who does asbestos work for us holds the mandatory occupational health and safety training. What you buy from us is authorised asbestos removal.
How do I know if there is asbestos in my house?
It cannot be seen with the naked eye. Buildings from before 1990 may have asbestos in fibre-cement roofs, tile adhesive, vinyl floors, ceiling panels, pipe insulation and filler. The only reliable method is a sample analysed by a laboratory. We take the sample and send you the report before you decide anything.
Does the work have to be notified to the authorities?
Yes. Asbestos work is notified to the Danish Working Environment Authority before it starts, and we handle that. The notification is part of the quote, not something you arrange yourself. If the work affects more than 10 m² or produces more than 1 tonne of waste, you as the building owner must also notify the building waste to your municipality; that is a separate notification, and we help with the figures.
How long does asbestos removal take?
A typical fibre-cement roof on a detached house takes one to two working days to take down. Indoor jobs depend on how much has to be sealed off and put under negative pressure. You get a schedule with the quote.
What happens to the asbestos waste?
We pack it in approved packaging, label it and take it to an approved facility. You get the disposal documentation, which you can use with the municipality, a buyer or your insurer.
Can we stay in the house during indoor removal?
The area we work in is sealed off and put under negative pressure with an airlock, so asbestos fibres do not spread. The rest of the home can usually be used, but it depends on the job. We agree it at the site visit.
Does asbestos always have to be removed, or can it be encapsulated?
Intact asbestos that nobody disturbs can in some cases stay in place or be encapsulated. If you are rebuilding, drilling or renovating, it has to go. We assess it from the material's condition and your plans and tell you what the rules require.
Can I get a grant to remove an asbestos roof?
There is currently no nationwide grant scheme for removing asbestos roofs in Denmark. The home-improvement tax deduction is up to DKK 9,000 per person in 2026, for labour costs only and only for selected green services such as roof and loft insulation; removing an asbestos roof and fitting a new one are not covered. Ask your municipality whether it has a fund; we know of none that covers asbestos roofs today. The government programme from June 2026 proposes changes for private owners, but nothing has been enacted. We never promise a grant we cannot document.
Do you also work for businesses and housing associations?
Yes. We remove asbestos for housing associations, property managers, contractors and public clients, often as part of a renovation or demolition. You get the notification, schedule and documentation that fit your building project.
How do we get started?
Write or call. You get a reply within one business day. We arrange a site visit, take a sample if there is any doubt, and send a fixed quote in writing. The price in the quote is the price on the invoice.
