Questions and answers about asbestos

Only an asbestos sample analysed by a laboratory can tell. You can't see asbestos with the naked eye. Houses built or renovated before 1990 may have asbestos in fibre-cement roofs, tile adhesive, vinyl floors, ceiling panels, pipe insulation and filler. We arrange a sample and an analysis, and you get the result before you decide anything.

Not always. Intact asbestos that nobody disturbs can stay in place or be encapsulated. If the material is damaged, it has to be encapsulated or removed, and if you are renovating where it sits, it usually has to be removed first. We assess it from the material's condition and your plans and tell you what the rules require.

As a rule, no. Since 1 January 2025, demolition of asbestos-containing material in Denmark requires an authorisation. The exception is brief demolition work of a minor nature. The Danish Working Environment Authority's examples are 4–6 roof sheets for one roof window, a few tiles that break when you drill into them, and 1–2 pipe bends taken down whole. Even that must be done with as little dust as possible, and a larger job may not be split up to avoid the requirement.

Asbestos demolition generally requires an authorisation from the Danish Business Authority (formerly the Danish Safety Technology Authority). The company must have an approved responsible professional and an approved quality management system. Since 21 December 2025, everyone who carries out asbestos work must also have completed an occupational health and safety qualification. Verdan carries out authorised asbestos removal, and everyone who works with asbestos for us has that qualification.

Removing an asbestos roof costs from DKK 365/m² incl. VAT (DKK 292/m² excl. VAT), depending on roof type and roof area. Disposal is included in the price. Indicative price – final quote after assessment. All per-m² prices exclude scaffolding, but we can put it up for you. For an ordinary single-storey house, the scaffolding costs DKK 15,625 incl. VAT (DKK 12,500 excl. VAT). Indoor jobs such as tile adhesive, pipe insulation and ceiling panels have no fixed per-m² price, because the extent of the work and the containment set the price. You get a fixed written quote based on your details.

Not from the state. There is currently no nationwide grant scheme for removing asbestos roofs in Denmark. The home-improvement tax deduction is up to DKK 9,000 per person in 2026, but it covers only labour on selected green services such as roof and loft insulation. Removing an asbestos roof and fitting a new one are not covered. Ask your municipality whether it has a fund. The government programme from June 2026 proposes changes for private owners, but nothing has been enacted.

It varies with the job. For a roof, it depends on the area, the scaffolding and the access, and indoors on how much has to be sealed off and put under negative pressure. You get a schedule with the quote.

Usually yes, in the rest of the home. We seal off the area we work in and keep it under negative pressure with an airlock, so the dust stays inside. Before we start, we agree with you which parts of your home you can use.

Yes, when asbestos is removed, and we handle it. We notify the Danish Working Environment Authority before the work starts, and the notification is included in the quote. If the work covers more than 10 m² or produces more than 1 tonne of waste, you as the building owner must also screen the building and report the construction waste to your municipality. That notification is in your name, and we help you with the details.

We pack it in closed, labelled packaging and take it to an approved facility. Transport and the landfill fee are included in the price, so you are never left with the asbestos waste.

You get a copy of the notification to the Working Environment Authority, the receipt from the approved facility and, if we agreed a clearance measurement, its result. The papers show what was removed, who removed it and where the waste went. Keep them with the other papers for the house, so you have them when you sell and if your insurer or the municipality asks.

If something is unclear, or you would rather we looked at the job, we come out for free. The price in the quote is the price on the invoice, unless we find more along the way than we could know beforehand. Then you get a new written quote before we carry on.
