Asbestos is a group of mineral fibres used in Danish building materials from the 1930s onwards: fibre-cement roofs, ceiling panels, tile adhesive, vinyl floors, filler and pipe insulation. The material is strong, fireproof and cheap, which is why asbestos-containing materials still sit in many buildings from before 1990.
The problem is not intact asbestos left in place. The problem is when asbestos-containing materials are drilled, sawn, broken or ground. That releases harmful asbestos fibres so small that they penetrate deep into the lungs and can cause asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma many years later.
That is why asbestos removal is not ordinary demolition work. Safe asbestos removal is a procedure: the job is planned and notified, the area is cordoned off, indoor rooms are put under negative pressure, the crew wears protective equipment, and the asbestos-containing materials leave the building packed, without turning into dust. That procedure is what makes an asbestos removal safe for you, your neighbours and the people doing the work. It is what we do.

Since 1 January 2025, demolition of asbestos-containing material in Denmark requires an authorisation: the responsible professional for the work must hold the authorisation for asbestos demolition. The exception is brief work of a minor nature, such as a few roof sheets around one roof window, and a larger job may not be split up to avoid the requirement.
Everyone who does asbestos work must also hold the mandatory occupational health and safety training, and the work must be notified to the Working Environment Authority before it starts. For indoor asbestos removal we work under negative pressure with an airlock so the fibres stay in the work area, and the waste is packed, labelled and taken to an approved facility. Corrugated fibre cement and fibre-cement slate from before 1990 are the biggest job in Denmark. We take the sheets down whole, without pressure washing and without breaking them, and take them to an approved facility.
Ceiling panels, wall panels and filler in homes and institutions from the 1950s to 80s. Removed indoors in a secured area under negative pressure with an airlock.
Tile adhesive and vinyl floors from before about 1980 can contain asbestos. The tiles have to come up without the adhesive turning into dust.

As a rule, no. Since 1 January 2025 demolition of asbestos-containing material in Denmark may only be carried out with an authorisation. The exception is brief demolition work of a minor nature. The Working Environment Authority's examples are 4–6 roof sheets for one roof window, a few tiles that break when you drill into them, and 1–2 pipe bends taken down whole. Even that must be handled without breaking, grinding or drilling the material, and a larger job may not be split into small ones to avoid authorisation. If in doubt, call before you touch it.

Yes. Asbestos work is notified to the Danish Working Environment Authority before it starts, and we handle that. The notification is part of the quote, not something you arrange yourself. If the work affects more than 10 m² or produces more than 1 tonne of waste, you as the building owner must also notify the building waste to your municipality; that is a separate notification, and we help with the figures.
It cannot be seen with the naked eye. Buildings from before 1990 may have asbestos in fibre-cement roofs, tile adhesive, vinyl floors, ceiling panels, pipe insulation and filler. The only reliable method is a sample analysed by a laboratory. We take the sample and send you the report before you decide anything.
