Asbestos removal in Herlev

In Herlev, asbestos typically turns up in the fibre-cement roofs of terraced houses, detached houses and garages along Herlev Hovedgade and in Hjortespring, and in the pipes, floors and ceilings of the post-war blocks of flats when they are renovated.

The Herlevhuse estate from 1948–50 and the other housing areas from the decades after the war were built while asbestos was common in pipe insulation on heating pipes, in ceilings and walls and in tile adhesive and floors. In the terraced and detached houses and in Hjortespring it is more often the roof: corrugated sheets or fibre-cement slates from before 1990 on a house, garage or carport may be an asbestos roof.

Asbestos pipe insulation is most common before 1972 and can be found until around 1980, and tile adhesive and floor glue could contain asbestos until around 1980. Fibre-cement sheets containing asbestos were made until 1988 and laid until around 1990. The building year tells you where to look, but only an asbestos sample shows whether a material contains asbestos. Have it tested before you tear anything down.
